Assessments
Our assessments are born from over 150 years of experience in defining how best to optimise the physical, cognitive and communicative potential in adults with neurological disabilities.
We use a number of different, non-invasive assessments to determine which therapies and treatment will best develop the individual abilities of each of our patients – including those in vegetative or minimally-conscious states. Some have been developed here at the RHN, and include:

SMART
Our multi-award-winning assessment that accurately assesses levels of awareness and the functional, sensory and communicative abilities of adults in vegetative or minimally-conscious states. Click here to learn more. |

MATLAS
The Music Therapy Assessment Tool for Low Awareness States contributes towards assessing a patient’s diagnosis and assessing their levels of response. It is used to inform Music Therapy treatment, and measures change in a number of areas including vision, hearing, wakefulness, and interaction. |

PASWORD
Our Putney Auditory Single Word Yes/No Assessment establishes a person’s level of auditory comprehension. Unlike other assessments it does not require a more complex motor response, simply a ‘yes or ‘no’ response communicated to the assessor in whatever way the person can manage. |
