Physiotherapy
Using a balance of treatment and rehabilitation exercises, our Physiotherapists work with almost every patient and resident in our care to promote independence by improving their movement, restoring function and maximising their motor skills.
How we help
Working on a one-to-one basis and alongside other specialist neuro-disability therapists, our Physiotherapists address the physical abilities of each patient, aiming to reduce the risk of secondary complications, and maintain and enhance their function and quality of life. This includes:
|
- |
Comfort and mobility
Working in conjunction with our Occupational Therapists and Biomedical Engineering Team to assess physical ability and postural needs from day one; we aim to get each person up in a wheelchair within five working days following admission, regularly reviewing the chair’s suitability until a bespoke chair can be prescribed. |
|
- |
Physical independence
Creating bespoke exercise plans to build on existing skills, and ensuring these skills are used to their full throughout the day, including during recreation; for example, strengthening muscle power and improving joint range by playing a musical instrument. |
|
- |
Posture
Providing positioning guidelines to maximise comfort in bed; and using equipment, positioning and muscle-tone management to prevent secondary problems from arising. |
|
- |
Physical activities
Using everything from tilt tables and exercise bikes, to aquatic physiotherapy and Wii-Fit, we make exercises more enjoyable. |
