Here at the RHN we believe that profoundly disabled people deserve to enjoy independence, choice and the best quality of life – and, with the right treatment and support, this is more than possible:

We see our role as helping our patients, residents and their families to deal with the physical and emotional effects which accompany neuro-disability. Our work goes beyond the treatments and therapies we provide: we support and involve relatives and friends and encourage everyone to play an active part in our community – an environment of involvement, access and opportunity.

Residents and patients are given as much choice in how they are treated as possible – for instance, with regards to the management of their own affairs, their direct physical care, or even their choice of food or when they visit the hairdresser. All of our nursing staff are, therefore, trained and updated regularly in best practice concerning the maintenance of individual dignity. High levels of confidentiality is also maintained at all times.

In respecting the decisions a person is able to make and empowering, as far as possible, those who need support in decision making, we follow the guidance of the Mental Capacity Act (2005).

We also carry out vital research and provide a wealth of information for relatives and friends wanting to know more about issues related to neuro-disability.
