At the RHN, we place great emphasis on research. Only by seeking to advance the science of care for individuals with neuro-disabilities can treatment, and therefore long-term quality of life, be improved.
The Institute of Neuropalliative Rehabilitation
As our academic arm, the Institute of Neuropalliative Rehabilitation aims to provide an authoritative approach on all aspects of clinical management of people with rare, complex and chronic neurological disabilities. Because the conditions we work with at the RHN are often rare and complex, we contribute to a pool of specialist knowledge shared with other clinicians and academics in the field.
The multifaceted role of the Institute
- To carry out vital research supporting the implementation of new clinical developments and the improvement of clinical practice
- To provide families, professionals and policymakers with a broad range of clinical information regarding brain injury; neurological illness such as Huntington’s and MS; conditions such as locked-in syndrome, vegetative state and minimally conscious state and relevant guidelines and ethical issues
- To run a regular programme of conferences, workshops, courses and seminars to educate professionals, inform clinical development and stimulate interest in a wide range of topics relating to complex neurological disability
- To support international collaboration, communication, development and dissemination of knowledge in the field of complex neurological conditions, developing and influencing international standards and policy formation
The Institute has published its work for the benefit of other organisations around the world – please see Publications.
