Pre-employment checks
The RHN is required, under the Asylum and Immigration Act 1996, to establish the right of prospective employees to work within the UK. This will require the presentation of a current passport and supporting documentation from the Home Office.

Please note, further checks and advice form the Home Office may be sought to confirm the validity of documentation and employment status.

As a provider in the nursing and care sector, the RHN is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and is therefore able to ask about convictions during the recruitment process. We are required under employment legislation to make Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and POVA (Protection of Vulnerable Adults) checks on behalf of all successful appointees prior to commencement of employment.

The RHN will seek at least two satisfactory references from current or previous employers. Where this is not possible, character references may be accepted.

Proof of qualifications, professional membership and training will be necessary, particularly where this is required for the role.

In addition to these requirements, employment is also dependent on successful medical clearance and a minimum three month probationary period.

The RHN makes recruitment decisions that are objective and based on an appointee’s skills and abilities in light of the needs of the post.
