Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) is one of the oldest independent hospitals and medical charities in the UK, not to mention one of the most respected. Today, we continue to enhance dignity, independence, and quality of life for every one of the patients and residents who rely on our rehabilitation and care. We are respected as an authority on Neuro-disability care, we provide training in neuro-care and research advances into the science of care for individuals with neuro-disabilities. Providing short and long-term specialist services for adults with profound or complex neurological injuries, the RHN is passionate about finding ability in disability.

We are seeking Registered Nurses to join our Neuro-Behavioural and Huntington Disease Service at the RHN.

Your key responsibility is to deliver a high standard of professional clinical care to patients and residents of the hospital.

The Neuro-behavioural service is a specialist inpatient ward for adults with challenging behaviour resulting from a brain injury. The service use the Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) approach which focuses on using the positive techniques to promote adaptive behaviours.

Main objectives of the role

  • To deliver a high standard of care to the patient and residents of the hospital
  • To actively contribute to creating a culture where quality is at the centre of everything we do and is delivered on all occasions to the highest level, in accordance with the appropriate CQC regulations and professional standards including the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code
  • To work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines as a named nurse for a defined group of patients and take responsibility for:

  • Protecting and supporting the health of individual patients and residents
  • Assessment of care and health and social care needs
  • Development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for individual patients and residents
  • Within a model of clinical supervision, to gain experience and skills in, Clinical practice, Facilitation and teaching, Management and leadership
  • To maintain effective communication with patients, residents, families/carers and staff
  • To take charge of the ward/department in the absence of senior nursing staff when agreed competencies to do so have been fully attained

Experience and Qualifications Required

  • Relevant Nursing degree
  • NMC Registered
  • Significant post registration experience with relevant speciality – minimum 12 months post-qualification experience
  • Evidence of high level of nursing evidence based practice to support patient care delivery
  • Experience in teaching, assessing and supervising others including Registered Nurses and Health Care Assistants
  • Understanding of clinical audit, CQC, and Key Lines of Enquiry (KLOE)
