Head of Patient Safety & Quality
Fixed term (12 Months), full-time (36 hours a week)
The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) is a leading national centre of excellence, providing adult person centred services that span the entire care pathway from post acute rehabilitation services to end of life care, for people with complex Neuro-disability and their families, underpinned by a strong research and education programme.
The current post holder is due to go on maternity leave in January 2020 and we are looking for someone suitable who can cover this crucial role within RHN, preferably with a handover with the current post holder in December.
The prospective post holder should have a strong interest in patient safety and improving clinical outcomes, be able to demonstrate managerial experience and be aware of the quality and risk agenda for the RHN. The key requirements for the role will be able to have experience of conducting investigations, demonstrate challenge, advocate for the patient when conducting investigations and answering complaints. The role will be required to proactively work with the Executive Team, Senior Managers (clinical and non-clinical) and staff to ensure learning and patient outcomes are shared and staff receive feedback following concerns raised.
To achieve this, the prospective postholder will lead a patient safety and quality agenda that will reflect regulatory responsibilities, national initiatives, commissioners’ and independent auditor requirements, as well as the RHN’s overall mission and values. It is expected that the post holder will work closely with clinical service lines to pro-actively identify and systematically address gaps in the RHN’s clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience or clinical effectiveness outcomes.
The role involves wide-ranging collaboration with both internal and external colleagues, as well as healthcare partners across the system. The role requires analysis and interpretation of complex quality information, both quantitative and qualitative and contribution to devising strategies and approaches to resolve issues.
The Royal Hospital for Neuro-Disability was awarded a “Good” rating by the CQC in September 2017; the report noted many areas of excellence in care, responsiveness, management and leadership
