RHN launches new pathway for patients’ feeding options
On Thursday 19 January, staff from the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) hosted a launch event for an innovative new pathway which guides the process of making decisions with patients about their future feeding options.
Presenting to a packed Assembly room, Chief Executive Paul Allen introduced the event, followed by Lead Clinical Psychologist Richard Irwin, Senior Dietitian Lydia Fletcher and Advanced Specialist Speech and Language Therapist Erin Probert.
Innovative new patient feeding pathway for patients with brain injury
Several years in development at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, the pathway outlined at the launch event focuses on assessing capacity and making decisions around gastrostomy feeding versus risk feeding, which can often be challenging.
The presentation involved a talk about the legal frameworks that professionals need to work within, as well as the background to how the pathway was initially developed at the RHN on our Huntington’s Disease ward.
