Open lecture – How do nurses and AAC users feel about AAC training: Developing of a new nurse AAC training
Tuesday 25 November
Join us for this informative lecture to learn how research can drive meaningful change in nursing practice and patient care.
This one-hour open lecture will explore the vital intersection of patient care and nursing education through a mixed methods research framework. The lecture will delve into a comprehensive study that examined the perspectives of both patients and nursing staff regarding the training of nurses in high tech communication aids, or AAC.
We will begin by outlining the mixed methods research design used in this study, emphasizing how qualitative and quantitative data were integrated to gain a holistic understanding of the communication needs in healthcare settings. Attendees will learn about the diverse viewpoints gathered from patients and nursing staff, highlighting the essential elements that should be included in communication training.
Building on these insights, the lecture will then present the development of a targeted training intervention designed to equip nurses with the necessary skills and tools for effective communication. Participants will discover the innovative strategies employed to implement and test this intervention in real-world settings.
Finally, we will share the results of the training intervention, discussing its impact on both patient satisfaction and nursing efficacy.
