Greetings from the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability!

At the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, we care for adults of all ages living with complex neurological conditions, including acquired brain injuries, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and motor neurone disease.

Whilst statutory funding covers clinical care, our patients also enjoy a wide array of life-enhancing and enriching activities that go beyond NHS funding. This is where the generosity of our supporters is so valuable and the magic for our patients happen.  From Occupational Therapy art, Music Therapy, disability sport and wheelchair dance to name just a few, these are all ways which help patients to express themselves, build confidence, stay active and experience the best version of their life possible given their complex needs.

We also fund a number of sensory experiences that bring comfort, relaxation, and joy to our patients. From the gentle movement of tropical fish to the tactile pleasure of therapy pets; from gardening sessions to trips out; these moments help make every day brighter for people living with severe disabilities.

The aquarium on Chatsworth Ward features several species of fish and form the centrepiece of the ward’s day room. 

This autumn, we need to raise £15,000 to support the running of our ward aquariums.

“Research suggests that aquariums can provide a calming and engaging sensory experience in healthcare settings.  For patients with low levels of awareness or significant cognitive and communication impairments, aquariums across our organisation bring gentle movement, colour and light into their daily lives.
