Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability has Been Awarded with the Prestigious Race Equality Matters Trailblazer Status
Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability (RHN) has been awarded with the Race Equality Matters Bronze Trailblazer Status.
Bronze is the first stage in the Trailblazer series spotlighting organisations that are implementing impactful solutions to drive race equality. This is for organisations that have implemented Race Equality Matters (REM) solutions and/or have taken action on race inequality in other ways. In the past year, RHN has taken a number of actions including the expansion of our Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion team, relaunching our Race Equality Network, changing how ethnicity data is collected in the annual staff survey and holding a series of events to educate, raise awareness and celebrate culture and heritage. This has resulted in improving inclusion, helping ethnically diverse staff to feel valued and supported and ensuring all staff feel a true sense of belonging at the RHN.
Designed to recognise organisations driving meaningful change in the race equality sphere, REM Trailblazer status has been determined by an independent panel of experts. All with lived experience of race inequality in the workplace. Trailblazer status is #MoreThanAnAward. The purpose is to:
- Identify what is making a meaningful impact
- Encourage those making an impact to keep the momentum going
- Inspire others to up their game
- Evidence an organisation’s commitment to #ActionNotJustWords to tackle race inequality
Becoming a Trailblazer means the work RHN has done has resulted in change and made an impact across the breadth of the entire organisation. A step that aims to successfully address racial inequality and become a more diverse, inclusive and equal organisation.
Davinia Wilson , Race Equality Network Chair, said,
“We are very pleased to be acknowledged for our hard work towards improving race equality at the RHN. We have a wonderful ethnically diverse workforce and it is essential that they feel valued, heard and supported by the Race Equality Network.”
Kaleb Lloyd, Deputy Head of Workforce, Staff Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion, also said,
“We are proud to receive the Race Equality Matters Bronze Trailblazer Status. This recognition highlights our commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all staff. At Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, we believe every team member should feel valued, heard, and empowered. This award reflects our collective efforts to drive meaningful change and advance race equality within our organisation.”
Race Equality Matters is a not-for-profit that aims to be the catalyst to move organisations and individuals from just talking, to taking meaningful action that has a real impact on tackling race inequality. Formed in response to 2020’s Black Lives Matter movement, mindful that for far too long progress in addressing race inequality has been too slow, if it is not addressed now, will it ever be?
Race Equality Matters co-creates concepts and solutions in collaboration with those with lived experience of race inequality and develops the tools and know-how for them to be implemented.
Through the Race Equality Matters network of thousands of changemakers, these co-created solutions reach organisations and millions of employees, from race networks, to allies to achieve the change we all want to see and feel.
